threat meteres
how to use them in raid? I have the KLH one. Do I just look at it when my name gets too close to the tanks's name, I stop attacking?
I'm rogue.

I wouldn't go as far as stop attacking. Slow down your yellow damage, auto-attack for a bit or blow Feint.

Isn't the point of threat meters, to not get aggro in the first place?
This is what I'm asking.
How do threat meters work?

damage meters tell you your aggro, and anyone else using a compatible threat meters' aggro, in relation to your current target.
with no threat modifiers, 1 point of damage = 1 point of threat. I believe rogues have an innate 20% threat reduction, which means 1 point of damage = .8 points of threat.
buffs like salv drop it even further, not additevely, but multiplactive(sp). for a rogue with salv 1 point of damage would equal 1*(.8 x .7)= .56 point of threat.
tanks have high threat abilities, that do extra threat on top of the damage it does. it makes it easy for them to do more threat than you, since they will likely be doing much less damage.

They just explained it to you.
Basically what you said is right, when your name gets close to the tank, you must do something to not take over. Stopping attacking works but is inefficient...If you find yourself at the top of the meter then blow Feint everytime the cooldown is up.

If your guild was worth anything they would use omen.
Threat meters are simple:
mobs attack the person with the highest threat. Usually the main tank has the highest threat.
You, as a rogue, don't want your threat to go higher than the main tank's, that is what a threat meter does, it tells you when your threat gets too high.

They didn't tell me to install KLH OR Omen, they just said to get threat meters and that's the one I got cause it was the most downloaded threat meters on curse.

Well I used KLH for the first time about an hour ago in Molten Core (hehe we were 19 manning MC with lvl 70s) and I noticed that even though the Tank was always the highest on the threat list, he was losing aggro to the raid bosses a few times and they would attack other people in the group.
And warrior was not a bad tank either or anything. I don't get it.

They get rid of all their current aggro, so the tank has to build it up again.
As for losing it against the raid, that is because DPS can generate more threat than a tank can, which is why threat meters exist. This is also why threat reducing buffs exist.
As a warlock, in raids, I can pull threat very easily, which is why I get salv, and why I enchanted my cloak with subtlety.

Well its good you have a threat meter, but get omen next time you get a chance.

Don't you have a toon in the high 60s? You're in a guild, you raid and you don't know what threat is? I smell a rat...

I know what threat is but I didn't know what an "aggro dump" was.
And no I don't raid, I'm a beginner raider, as I've said multiple times. The Molten Core raid I said I did 3 hours ago was the first raid I was in and was doing it as a test.
I have a level 70 rogue. I'm starting Karazhan with my guild tomorrow night hopefully that's why I'm asking all these questions about raiding for I don't screw things up for them.

I dunno, I don't have a 70, I'm not a raider, and I know alot about threat and aggro dumps.
Of course I'm a healer, not a DPS clown.

Since you were in Molten Core, some mobs will always target someone else to place their abilities on them. Then there are some bosses that will do a full or partial aggro dump.

Yeah, most everyone should know what it means. Heck, its even important in small 5-man instances.

First of all, even if the OP doesnt know the basics of threat and aggro, I dont know why people in this forum have to give him grief over that. The whole reason for the post was so he could learn about it.
Second: I think some of the confusion in this thread is caused by the sloppy use of the terms "aggro" and "threat". Technically speaking aggro was originally meant to define the person who has the current attention of the relevant mob (which hopefully will be the tank) it is usually the person with the most threat. (If you have target of target enabled, it is always the target of the mob you are targeting who has aggro.) If you exceed the MT's threat and the mob shifts focus to you, you now have aggro.
Of course, now people use aggro to also mean threat. So when people say "watch your aggro" they are really saying, watch the amount of threat you are generating so you dont steal aggro.
Third: As a side note, I also recommend Omen threatmeter (notice its not Omen aggro meter).
